The Chairman needs to stop using attacks and erroneous threats against civil servants as a means to distract from the President-elect's obvious conflicts of interest.
Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) released the following statement joining Ranking Member Elijah Cummings’ call for Chairman Chaffetz to allow all Oversight and Government Reform Committee members to join the meeting with the Office of Government Ethics Director Walter M. Schaub, Jr.:
"It is now clear the Office of Government Ethics was ready, willing, and even had a date to meet with the Chairman. The Chairman needs to stop using attacks and erroneous threats against civil servants as a means to distract from the President-elect's obvious conflicts of interest. The Chairman’s about-face on the imperative of oversight is concerning. Open hearings would be a step in restoring the Committee’s credibility on this pressing and important issue." |
