For the second year in a row, readers of Northern Virginia magazine have selected Congressman Gerry Connolly and Senator Mark Warner as the region’s Best Local Politicians.

The magazine featured Connolly and Warner in its June 2014 “Best of NoVA” issue that reported its readers’ choices on everything from nightlife, restaurants, shopping, and spas to sports figures, newscasters, and politicians.  Others recognized as tops in their field included anchors Jim Vance and Doreen Gentzler of NBC4 and Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Connolly and Warner were both selected as best local politicians because they tied among the readers of the magazine, as they did in 2013 survey.

In recognizing Congressman Connolly, the magazine said, “Connolly has shepherded the 11th District through expansive growth, touting Northern Virginia’s strong economic potential and infrastructure.  But it is Northern Virginia’s investments in both education and the massive improvements to transportation that Connolly is most proud of.”

In its write-up on Senator Warner, the magazine noted, “Virginia’s senior senator remains a popular fixture in Old Dominion politics.  A prominent member of the Democratic leadership on fiscal affairs, Warner has helped try to bridge the gridlock with bipartisan negotiation and proposed reforms to the housing sector.”

Connolly and Warner were both well known in Northern Virginia well before they were both elected to Congress in 2008.  Warner was Virginia’s Governor.  Connolly served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County, the largest jurisdiction in the Commonwealth with 1.1 million residents.
