The non-partisan League of Conservation Voters (LCV) has given Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) a 96 percent rating in its annual scorecard for votes on environmental protection and public health issues cast in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2013.

Connolly and his colleagues Jim Moran and Bobby Scott were rated the highest among Virginia’s 11 congressmen.  The average for all House members was 43 percent.  Connolly also received lifetime score from LCV of 97 percent, the highest among Virginia’s congressmen.

The LCV scorecard for 2013 covered 28 votes on a variety of environmental issues, including energy, climate change, public health, public lands, wildlife conservation, and spending for environmental programs.  The votes included in the 2013 LCV Scorecard represent a consensus of experts from 20 environmental and conservation groups.

Connolly first earned a reputation as a strong environmentalist as the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and has continued to champion environmental issues in Congress as co-Chairman of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucus.  A dozen years ago during his tenure in Fairfax County, Connolly established an Environmental Advisory Committee, composed of Virginia citizens, to develop the first comprehensive environmental plan for Fairfax County. The advisory committee still meets regularly with Connolly to discuss environmental issues in Congress.

“I am committed to continue to fight to protect the environment and safeguard public health and I am proud to receive this recognition from such a respected group of environmentalists,” Congressman Connolly said.
