WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Congressman Gerry Connolly was recognized by Northern Virginia Community College for his work to help returning war veterans further their education and achieve skills to negotiate life in the civilian workforce. Connolly received the appreciation award Wednesday at a ceremony at NVCC’s Woodbridge campus. College Provost Dr. Sam Hill presented the award to Connolly during the school’s Annual Military Appreciation Day. Hill praised Connolly’s advocacy on behalf of students who are veterans. Veterans account for more than 10 percent of NVCC’s student body. NVCC is one of the largest community college systems in the nation and is recognized as one of the best. “Our nation has a sacred trust with our veterans, our service members, and their families,” Connolly said. “They have sacrificed for us and our nation. We must ensure that the services we promised to them are available to them, and education ranks near the top of the needs of our returning military.” Congressman Connolly’s district offices in Annandale and Woodbridge handle many cases involving veterans and military families in Virginia’s 11th District who are seeking information and guidance or are having difficulties securing services or benefits from the federal government.
