Connolly Receives National Award for Commitment to Virginia's Seniors

The National Grange Presents Congressman Gerry Connolly with "Summer 2013 Champion of Seniors Award." Read more.
He was joined for the award presentation at the Woodbridge Senior Center by representatives of the Prince William Area Agency on Aging and local seniors showing their appreciation for Connolly’s work in the community.
“Congressman Connolly has exhibited outstanding leadership in Congress to protect Medicare and ensure access to affordable prescription medicines and health care choices for seniors. He has definitely earned this award and deserves our thanks,” said Grace Boatright, Legislative Director for The National Grange.
“I am honored to receive this award.  I have worked hard with my colleagues in Congress to protect and improve Medicare.  We have lowered premiums and deductibles for seniors, eliminated co-payments for preventive care services, recovered over $8 billion in fraudulent payments over the last two years, and we are gradually closing the prescription drug coverage gap known as the 'donut hole,'” Connolly said.
"Seniors in my district who are affected by the donut hole have realized an average annual savings of $650 per person,” said Connolly.
Connolly currently serves on the Congressional Task Force on Seniors.  As Chairman of Fairfax County, he led the development of the 50 Plus Plan.  The Plan helped make a community originally built for young families more responsive to its aging population with programs designed to improve senior mobility and volunteerism opportunities.
Connolly’s Congressional district offices are available to assist seniors with aging and retirement issues involving the Social Security Administration, Office of Personnel Management, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and various other federal agencies.  To date, Connolly has helped individuals secure over $1 million in delayed, lost or misplaced Social Security benefits.
