Connolly Statement on Possible Additional Metrorail Shutdowns
Washington, DC,
March 30, 2016
Congressman Connolly released the following statement after reports that Metro leadership may explore additional Metrorail shutdowns.
Congressman Connolly released the following statement after reports that Metro may explore additional Metrorail shutdowns: "This month’s shutdown of Metro’s rail service should serve as a clarion call for the federal government and the region to make additional investments in the system’s infrastructure. It also highlighted the need for Metro to get its internal house in order. That one-day shutdown, though necessary, proved to be a significant challenge to our riders and the region. A long-term shutdown of any line is almost unimaginable and would have serious and crippling repercussions. Any discussion of an extended shutdown must not be made lightly, and I hope the Metro leadership will hear from riders and all stakeholders before rushing to any decision." |
