Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA) was elected today to serve as Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Government Operations. Connolly will serve as the ranking Democrat on this key subcommittee of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform with jurisdiction over the federal government management, information technology, federal economic policy, federal procurement, and many other aspects of federal government operations. The Republican chairman of the subcommittee is Rep. John Mica of Florida. During the full Oversight and Government Reform Committee meeting held Tuesday to announce the committee leadership, Chairman Darrell Issa called the Government Operations Subcommittee “the core of this committee.” Connolly said, “I’m honored to serve as the Ranking Member of the Government Operations Subcommittee. I look forward to continuing to work on smart reform of federal procurement and operations policy, advancing our nation’s technology sector, and maintaining a professional federal workforce.” Connolly also pledged to continue his work to enhance the efficiency of the federal government’s procurement process and reform the federal government’s operations in a technology-driven environment. Connolly’s 11th District of Virginia has one of the largest concentration of federal workers and federal contractors of all 435 congressional districts across the nation. It is also home to one of the largest technology hubs on the East Coast.
