Connolly Statement on President Trump Abandoning COVID-19 Relief Negotiations

Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Government Operations, released the following statement today in response to President Trump’s decision to walk away from the negotiating table and leave the American people without another COVID-19 relief package:

“Mark it down: On October 6, 2020, the president walked away from ongoing negotiations on a desperately-needed COVID-19 relief package. He gets the best care in the world, then holds care for the rest of us hostage. It’s a familiar quid pro quo: ‘Want my help? I need you to do me a favor first. Re-elect me.’

“The American people will remember this moment when they don't find another stimulus check in their mailboxes this fall. Or when their family businesses don’t get a second round of PPP loans. Or when their local governments starts cutting services because the funds have dried up.

"They will remember it.”
