Congressional Republicans Should Be Ashamed of Themselves for Blocking Equal Pay for Women

Congressman Gerry Connolly today condemned Republicans for continuing to stand in the way of progress for America's women after Senate Republicans voted Tuesday to block the Senate from voting on equal pay for women. Read more.

Congressman Gerry Connolly today condemned Republicans for continuing to stand in the way of progress for America’s women after Senate Republicans voted Tuesday to block the Senate from voting on equal pay for women.  In a similar move last week, Republicans in the House of Representatives voted unanimously against bringing the same bill – known as the Paycheck Fairness Act -- to the House floor. 

“In today’s world, how can anyone vote against providing women with equal pay?” Connolly said.  “The action taken by House and Senate Republicans during the last two weeks to kill this women’s rights bill is shameful.
“Equal pay is not simply a women’s issue; it’s a family issue.  In most Northern Virginia households and in more than 50 percent of all American households, women’s salaries help pay the bills,” Connolly said.
The Paycheck Fairness Act would ensure women start receiving the same legal remedies and protections against pay discrimination that the law currently provides to protect Americans against pay discrimination based on race and ethnicity.”
“This battle is not over,” Connolly said. “I will continue to fight for an America where women are treated as equals in every sense of the word, including the pay and benefits they receive from employers.”
